I think for XP users sticking with 3.8 is a wise decision. I know a friend where he had XP but have since upgraded to 7 Home premium. If a Skype 4.1 contact sends him a file, or if he receives a file from someone using Skype 4.1, his machine flashed a stop error and rebooted. He's not having this now since upgrading to 7 and thus Skype 4.1.
