Trust me. If you are running XP, the Notification Area Customize dialog in the Task Bar and Start Menu Properties dialog will contain a list of System Tray icons. Be sure you are focused on the Task Bar page of this two-page dialog. My Notification Area list has a total of 68 icons. Of course, they are not all displayed at the same time, because most of them are defaulted to "Hide When Inactive". BTW: You can also access the Task Bar and Start Menu Properties dialog by selecting this option from the Control Panel, and tabbing within the Task Bar page to the Notification Area Customize button.

What version of windows were these instructions for? I am using XP and my notification area properties didn't show any list of things to check or uncheck.

Hi Mike,

You can easily stop this message from appearing in your system tray by following these steps:
1. Press Windows key and then Escape to focus on the Start button.
2. Tab once to the Task Bar and press Alt-Enter to bring up the Task Bar Properties dialog.
3. Tab to the Notification Area Customize dialog button and hit Space.
4. Tab to the list of System Tray icons and press Y repeatedly until you land on "You Have New Email" , which, by default is set to "Always Show". 5. Right arrow once to the Behavior combo box , and arrow up to "Always Hide". Tab to Okay, hit Space and tab again to Okay and hit Space. This should permenantly suppress the email notification message in the System Tray. You can select "Always Hide" to suppress any other icon you don't want to appear in the System Tray. HTH.

Hi Patricia,

Thank you for your response. I'm pretty sure that everybody running XP
probably gets this message, but out of curiosity I was just wondering if
there was a way to keep this message from showing up in the system tray.
Thanks again, take care.
Mike

Hi All,

Whenever I get new Email there is a notice in the system tray that reads " you have new Email ". Is there a way to turn this feature off/keep this from showing up in the system tray? I am running XPSP3 home & Jaws 10/11 latest. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much, take
care.
Mike
