Hi,
I've never been one to get on MS about updates they've made to
Windows, but the cosmetic changes they've made to Windows 7 makes it
awful difficult to navigate through using JAWS 11.0.746.
First my trusty old Startmenu has been completely changed. Even in
prior versions of Windows (XP, Vista), they had a Classic mode to
change the Startmenu back to the way you're used to, they've
completely done away with that in Windows 7.
The Windows Explorer Treeview and Listview structures has been
replaced with a left and right Treeview type of navigation. Very
confusing to know where you are using JAWS.
Even the control panel has hidden the most used icons deep within
parent icons, so you now spend 5 to 10 minutes trying to find
something that used to take 10 seconds.
After a fresh install of Windows 7, the only icon on the desktop is
the "Recycle Bin." You have to actually go through some special menu
to tell Windows 7 to put the icons for "Computer, Network, Control
Panel" back on the desktop.
They've even messed with the system tray. Remember when you first
installed a new application and it happened to minimize itself to the
system tray? You were able to use JAWS [Insert]+[F11] key combination
to see it there. Now to have JAWS see the system tray icon for that
application, you have to first go through a special menu to tell
Windows 7 to "Show Icon and Notifications" in the system tray for it.
Just plan awful!
I've been using Windows for over 10 years and now I'm supposed to
take special classes to learn it all over again to use Windows 7?
I hate Windows 7! Boy, I'm ready to re-install Windows Vista.
Now if I'm missing the boat here and there is a mailing list
dedicated to visually impaired users of Windows 7, please share
subscription info. Maybe I'm missing some tweaks or something that
will make this OS more speech friendly to JAWS 11.0.746. I'll be
willing to buy a 3rd party application, if it's able to bring back
some familiarity to Windows 7.
Don't mean to rant here, but the purpose of updates are to make an
application faster, more easier for the end-user to use. Well MS did
the complete opposite with Windows 7.
