Hello Bill,

1. How do you tell when the search is complete?

Searches are quite fast and you usually only need to wait a few seconds for
them to complete. Reading the status line with JAWS key and page down key
will usually give you a good indication of whether or not a search is done.
I don't know of a keystroke that will let you know when the search is
finished. However, if you route JAWS cursor to PC cursor, do a page up, and
arrow down four times you can listen to the line that will tell you if the
stop button is available. If it is unavailable then you know that the
search is done. This should be done when you are in the results pane. If
you are not hearing all of the information on a line when in the results
pane then maximize the window by pressing Alt+spacebar followed by the
letter X. A person could either create a small script and apply it to a
keystroke to hear that line or even build a frame, but again, searches are
quite fast and either reading the status line or getting the status of the
stop button will be a good indicator of whether or not a search is finished.
If you are using a desktop you can route JAWS to PC by using the insert key
with the minus key (top right on the number pad). If using the laptop
configuration then use caps lock key with the left bracket key (located to
the right of the P). Remember to go back to PC cursor after getting the
information you need with the JAWS cursor. If using a desktop configuration
then press the plus key on the number pad. If using laptop configuration
then press the caps lock key with the semicolon.

2. After you press F6 and you see no messages, can you assume your search
found no results? Or, there a better way to verify you have no search
results?

You might want to wait a few seconds and keep checking status line, reading
current line or using up and down arrow keys. Reading the status line will
tell you if any messages have been found.

3. How do you search all mail folders within current folder?

After using CTRL+shift+F you are in the edit field where you type in your
search. Remember that if you tab one time from there you will notice that
you are only searching in subject lines. Use down arrow to pick the
"subject and messages" choice if you want to search for the words in the
body of messages as well as the subject line. Use Alt+B to activate the
browse button. Focus will be on the current folder name that you are
searching. Use tab one time and find out if the checkbox that lets the
search be done in subfolders is checked. If not then use spacebar to check
it. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key.

Take care.

Thank you Brian that worked.

Have 3 follow up questions.

1. How do you tell when the search is complete?
2. After you press F6 and you see no messages, can you assume your search
found no results? Or, there a better way to verify you
have no search results?
3. How do you search all mail folders within current folder?

Thank you,

Bill

Hello Bill,

Use F6 to move to the results pane. Press it again to move back to the
search box.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 - Reading Results of Search

Hi,

After I search with control-shift-f to search in a Outlook 2007 sub folder,
how do I read the results of the search with JAWS 10?

I do the search, but cannot find the list of messages the search found.

Thank you,
Bill
