John,

I've had the same issue, both internal and external cards work well with JAWS using my XP laptop and work computer, but, I get garbage from the external on my Windows7.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] SOUND CARD PROBLEM

I'm using jaws 11, Windows 7 and an HP Professional Model 550, notebook computer. I have 2 sound cards. The internal card is part of the notebook and I have an additional Sound Blaster 5 which operates via the USB port. When I type, Jaws chokes up and sometimes doesn't read the entire word when the USB card is connected. When I disconnect the card and go to the internal, sound source, Jaws does not have that same problem.

I believe that there is a way to have Jaws 11 recognize an additional sound card. But I can't seem to find that information or the settings in my support documentation. This is a somewhat far out question but can someone tell me if this choking issue might be a conflict between Jaws and the outboard card?
