The main page takes very long to load because of all of the graphics, advertisements, and extra content. The m.facebook.com, and the lite.facebook.com site works better and loads faster because of less content. If you want to use the regular site, you will have to listen for the status to make sure the page is fully loaded before you try and update your status or anything else.
