Hello Vicki,

Is it possible that you had the Magic screen magnifier installed with JAWS
9? In the Magic preferences there is a choice for choosing a tracking
engine when using Magic with JAWS. I am not sure if that is still the case
with the later versions of the program but it was in some earlier versions.
If the JFW tracking engine was chosen in the Magic preferences then the user
would have additional benefits such as using Braille when the two programs
were running simultaneously. HJ tracking gave assistance to Magic users
working in previously difficult programs to access such as Internet
Explorer, but it would work without JAWS being licensed on a system. I have
not used Magic but I am wondering if some JAWS scripts in your version 9 of
JAWS were altered according to the tracking engine you used in Magic. If
you are not using Magic any more then you would want to make sure it is
completely uninstalled, and you might need to do a repair of JAWS 9.

If you haven't had Magic installed then please ignore this message as I am
just raising a possibility. The "hidden JAWS" part of the message could
have to do with the tracking preference, the mouse pointer being hidden when
using Magic or other things.

I don't think the message is related to tracking spyware, but of course, you
might run a scan to be sure.

You might also check to see if any left over parts of an uninstalled version
of Magic is still active as a process, service or even as an add-on in
Internet Explorer, although, I don't know if the programs ever actually used
add-ons.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Hidden JAWS and Tracking Engine

Can someone please explain this to me? I have a window that has been popping

up lately saying Hidden JAWS. Within this window are two options: close
tracking engine or about tracking engine. When the engine is open, I can't
download anything from the internet. As soon as I close it, I can. What is
this engine and why am I getting this window? It seems to happen mostly with

JAWS 9.

Thanks.
Vicki
