Phil! It depends on how much information you have about the email for which you are searching.
What I do is to:
go to the folder in which it is: usually the deleted items folder. If you have set it to empty after each session, Mate: you have shot yourself in the foot! If the folder is still bulging: press ctrl shift f and you will be presented with a number of choices. from, to, subject, and so on. In subject, it doesn't matter if you don't remember the entire subject line, just a word is
sufficient, and press enter.
