Yep, generally its down to people not renewing their subscriptions. I
just tend to put Malwarebyte's anti-malware on there as well along with
Avast, that solves many virus issues that people experience. Of course,
the latest versions of internet explorer and firefox also help, but it
also depends on the user's surfing habbits. If you're willingly going
to go to sites that are known to display many adds, filesharing etc,
then run peerblock to eliminate spyware and popups. A couple years
back, i had a system which had an infected DLL in windows\system32. I
tried a few online scanners and Live CD sollutions, but the only thing
that removed the virus was kaspersky. as long as you have an active
subscription with the checker you use, you're good to go, just my 2
cents worth.

the same goes for avast and kaspersky
when i get a pc that is infected
i see avast, kaspersky norton or most popular eset nod32
i install avira antivir and it detects at least a hundred viruses
