First, if you want a full-sized desktop 104-key keyboard, you will need to
get a laptop with a 17-inch display, there are also some with 16-inch
displays. The ones with smaller displays don't have room for a full-sized
keyboard with a separate number pad. If you want a smaller laptop, you
could always buy a USB keyboard to use as a full-sized keyboard, although
this would mean you have to carry around two devices.
As for memory, if you are getting Windows 7, you will want 2GB as a minimum.
It will be much easier to find 64-bit Windows than it will to find 32-bit
Windows. Just about every new laptop is 64-bit; although you may be able to
get the manufacturer to put a 32-bit system in. The 32-bit systems really
only give you a max memory of 3 GB usable, 4GB max. That is because of the
formula 2 to the 32nd power minus 1 is the maximum memory.
My recommendation would be to consider how you will use your laptop. If you
are in essence going to use it as a "desktop replacement" where you will be
doing some intensive tasks like audio editing, or have several applications
running at the same time, then go with a 64-bit system and get extra memory.
But, you need to check for example to make sure your scanner and printer has
drivers for a 64-bit operating system. This shouldn't be a problem for
newer printers and scanners, but the older ones that are more than five
years old may not work with a newer operating system, particularly ones that
are 64-bit.

I'm getting an education for sure.
Which brings me to the next faze, memory.
How much, add more, go with what the laptop has?
My sister just purchased back around end of March, a Acer laptop with this
win/7 for roughly $359. but I don't know much anything else about it, save
it has a full size keyboard, a button to turn/off the mouse function. I is
much lighter in weight too and I think the monitor is bigger, but those
details don't interest me much on monitor size.
I'm focusing on how easy it is to use it, the key layout and all that. It
did come with several USB slots and the cd rom drive if that's what it's
still called these days,lol.
But the keyboard was almost exact to desktop keyboards or what I am use
to.

Sorry. I agree it's all technical. Basically, 64 bit operating systems
can use all the RAM (Random Access Memory) your computer offers. So, for
example, if you have 4GB (4000GB or 4096MB), then a 64 bit operating
system can use all of that, rather than 3 to 3.5 on a 32 bit operating
system.

All machines are 64 bit. The question is do you want a 32 bit or a 64
bit operating system? Personally I would stay with 32 bit, unless you
have mission critical applications that require intensive memory and
processing power. Most of us do not, so it's best to stay with 32 bit
for the time being. But also note that 64 bit operating systems is the
future, so you may just want to go 64 bit anyway so that your laptop
is "futureproof". Hope this helps.
