The big difference there was that moving from 16 bit to 32 bit had many much needed technical advantages and performance improvements. Intel and Microsoft are pushing 64 bit hard. In this case, bigger is nort necessarily better! There is the important improvement that if you want more than 4 GB (which I wish I had), a 64 bit Operating System is required. I even hear from tech journalists that some things will actually be slower on a system with a 64 bit edition of Windows 7!

Thanks, this is a desk top and I do want home premimum. I did not know that about amd thanks.I really do not need 64 bit but did not want to fall in the same old problem going from 16 to 32 bit. In a short while there was nothing
being created for 16 bit.

Just a few comments to consider. I used to tfavor AMD for a long time as
well. They used to provide more bang for the buck! Unfortunately, they
have fallen far behind Intel in processor development and currently are not
even competitive in price or performance. It may eeven be hard to find an
AMD sysyem right now. I hope they catch up soon and provide competition
again. If you are looking for performance, stay away from NetBooks, which
are attractively inexpensive, but have limited performance.

I think most users would prefer Windows 7 Home Premium. Starter has
arbitrary limitations to make it slightly cheaper and Professional and above editions would require a Pro version of JAWS. Unless you know that you need
one of the few additional features of Professional or Ultimate, stick with
Home Premium. If you are not planning on using more than 4 GB of RAM, there
is no technical reason to get a 64 bit edition of Windows 7. All hardware
available today, except NetBooks, will be 64 bit capable. However, as much
as Microsoft and the retailers push systems with 64 bit Windows 7, not all
software is ready. There are still compatibility issues with some software and especially hardware drivers. If you have older peripherals, such as an old printer or scanner, this could be a problem. If you want more than 4 GB
of RAM, you have no choice, 64 bit Windows 7 is required.

Have fun with your new laptop!

I am still on the quest fora new computer. I think that I know what I want
in the system to make it best for jaws.
1. case - I think that I want a front earphone jack that will
automatically
cut off the regular speaker when needed.
2. processor - I have always been partial to AMD.
3. memory 3 or 4 gb.
5. duel sound cards one dedicated to jaws.
6. dual hard drives 360 gb main and 180 gb backup.
Right now I am using a 40 gb and is about 75 percent full.
7. dvd drive that can burn double layer preferably without lightscribe.
8. Win 7 64 bit.
9 Not sure what email client, thinking of outlook 2007 as opposed to live.
I
saw some concerns on outlook 2010 on the net.
