Hi Erin,
this is about the columns command being unavailable on the view menu. In
windows
live mail there's a setting for the display of messages in the message list,
and
the options are automatic, two line or one line. The default setting is
automatic. With this setting, when the reading pane (preview pane) is present
on
the right of the message list, which I think it is by default, then the
messages
in the message list are displayed as two lines, and when this is the case, the
columns can't be adjusted. So the solution is either to set the display of mail
messages to one line rather than automatic, or to change the reading pane to be
either at the bottom or not to be shown.
All these options are set on the layout dialog, which you can open from the
view
menu. It contains four buttons, and when a button is opened, some controls
appear which are relevant. The first button is the reading pane button, and it
is already open. You can tab to a check box for setting whether the reading
pane
is shown, and if this is checked, then a pair of radio buttons follow for
setting whether the reading pane is the right or the bottom.
The option for the message list is available by opening the message list button
by pressing spacebar. You can then tab to a set of three radio buttons.
David.

Hi, everything you suggested worked on my desktop which has windows xp on it.
However, when I opened windows live mail and went to view it said columns was
unavailable. Also, pressing insert with page down only said details but did
not
elaborate.
