Hi everyone,

I thought I would give you some thoughts about Openbook 9, Pearl and my
netbook.

AS an elementary learning support teacher, I am constantly on the move
between school and after school classes.

I am finding the Pearl with Openbook 9 to be very much a useful tool for me.
I am able to quickly scan handouts that I am given when I arrive at a
workshop/class.

After experimenting with the Openbook 9 with a small netbook processor, I
wanted you to know the following. If you have any comments or suggestions,
please feel free to reply.

While my netbook with a 1.3GHZ processor is able to scan the given page
successfully, I have found that in the acquire and read mode, I find it best
to wait and allow Jaws to read some of the page before I scan another page.
If I don't I find my reading of the page slightly delayed.

When using the automatic acquire mode, I usually turn off the speech
starting during the scanning of the material. If I allow it to read, I have
the same result as I did during the acquire and read. Most important, when
scanning a longer document, a chapter of a book, or a whole book, it is
necessary to allow some time for the netbook to finish processing the full
scanned material before saving. This is well worth the time, however.

I had my local computer tech check out the processor speed during the Pearl
scanning and he said that it was maxed out. Even with two gigs of ram, this
would explain the above.

Of course, my larger laptop with a duel processor is faster, however, with
the portability and convenience of my netbook, the above is well worth the
slightly longer time during the scanning process.

Hope this helps,

Russ
