MS released several Windows patches recently. Perhaps they were being downloaded and installed. Sometimes, if you are working, or have walked away from the PC for an extended period, you didn't see the restart dialogue, and if you were away long enough, you would return to find your PC had rebooted. I think it gives you 5 minutes.

If that dialogue box comes up while you're working, it should ask you if you want to restart now or later. This happened to me and while trying to figure out what was going on, I accidently activated the restart now button and it did. I did receive an update for something last night which is what brought this to mind.
