JAWS should go to sleep when you launch OB.

Thank you, Riana
Yes, when I launch Openbook, Reed starts speaking. Is that what you
mean?
Should I turn off Jaws before launching Openbook 9? I seem to think I
hve
done this but will try again.

Hello Russ,

I have earlier versions of openbook, but if you rather than jaws with
openbook 9, instead try using the imbedded elloquence that comes with
openbook, which uses the same read voice than jaws, you will use less
resources.

Regards,

Riana

Subject: [JAWS-Users] New netbook or small laptop?

Hi everyone,

There was much discussion about this a few weeks ago. Back then I wasn't
looking.

I am currently running a Toshiba ultrathin. I have Windows 7, 2 gigs of
ram.
The problem is my processor is only 1.3GHZ. For some time, this has been
wonderful, mainly using Outlook 2007 and Word, 2007.

I have the new Openbook 9.0 with the Pearl Camera. This laptop is fast
enough when scanning a page. But is very slow in the processing. When I
do a
scan and read,Jaws is very sluggish as the computer processes the pages
I
have scanned.

I had my processor tested under a load as the scan/read process was done
and
was told the processor is at its max.

Since this was already discussed on this list, I am giving my e-mail
address
if anyone would like to contact me off list with advice about other
options
I might check out.

Thank you, Russ
