Hello,
I started out with the full versions using Jaws 10. Like I mentioned on the Jaws - Users group in order to chat you must have Internet Explorer 8 (someone else may have to chime in and tell you how to chat using I.E. 7. I think a Jaws-User by the name of Sue uses I.E. 7 to chat . If they will they can tell you how to go about it using I.E. 7, but this is what works for me.), if you are going to chat using the facebook site. I will give instructions assuming that you are using the internet explorer 8 mentioned earlier and the facebook.com site. Facebook has made some changes that I have not quite figured out yet when it comes to closing the facebook chat window (there are some unlabelled buttons below and I think above the chat window and when I have played around with them I have managed to get the chat window to close not sure if these have anything to do with closing the window or not but if it works then I will use it). However, your wanting to know how to establish a chat and this is how. One, find the words chat which will be located near the top of the page. Secondly, you can try to press enter on this to try and open the chat window, but if that does not work then try a simulated left mouse click I think on a standard key board it is the multiply key or the key right above the multiply key on the num pad; on the laptop with laptop layout selected it will be the caps lock key serving as the jaws key and the number 8 on the number row. After doing this you will want to do a refresh of the screen you can do this by pressing your jaws key and the escape key at the same time. After doing this find your word chat again and scroll down below that, here you should find a list of your friends currently online. Once you find the friend you are wanting to chat to press the enter key on that person's name. Pressing enter on the person's name will open up a chat window and once you find the chat window you can go up and if your forms mode is not automatic you can press space bar to turn it on and start typing your message. Now that you have your message typed out you can press enter and it should send the message, but if you don't feel that it was sent then prress the escape key and press enter again once out of forms mode. Your message should show up as listing your name or the word "me" and a time listed out beside it if your message was sent. Follow the same steps for turning forms mode on and responding back to someone that has sent you a message. This is what I use to chat within the facebook site. I hope this helps. When using facebook I have found when sending messages also that refresh of the screen (jaws key + escape key) will become your best friend. *LOL* ----- Original Message ----- From: "Randy Tijerina" <[email protected]>

Hi,
I have no problems using Facebook Chat with JAWS 11 on Internet
Explorer 7. I only wish there is a way to close the Chat window
completely because the person' name is always on top.

Regards,
Siew Ling

A lot of people use AIM. However, I use the computer version of facebook
(facebook.com) for chatting. I have AIM and the AIM scripts, but choose to just use the facebook site for chatting. If you want you can contact me off list with particular questions. My contact email is [email protected]. It may be this afternoon before I am able to respond since I will be going over to the college here in a little bit to work in the lab. I have I.E. 8
once I.E. 8 came out facebook chat would no longer work with earlier
versions of internet explorer. Take care
