What about a message rule? I have been trying to divert all messages with
the word jaws in the subject to a folder named Jaws although I have had
some success it will not hold it and setting up is very hit and miss.

to create a group in windows live mail;
and this is assuming your using 2011 the latest version,
1. open windows live mail;
2. press the f6-key, until you hear mail.
3. down arrow and enter on contacts.
4. Note to create a group, it's called category,
so, alt+h, then press the letter "g",
now your asked for name of group,
now tab to contact list, arrow to a contact,, and press spacebar to
select,
once you have completed adding the specific email addresses to your group,
tab and enter on save changes button,
