You can go to the site for UPS and Canada Post and select a Check Box to have them send you e-mail notifications automatically. I don't know about other couriers.

I often use FedEx and one of the things I don't like about these email tracker things is that I used to be able to click things about which I wanted to be notified, picked up, delivery problems and delivered. Now I have to send several emails throughout the day to get the same information.

You can also usually paste a UPS or FedEx tracking # into the search box on your browser and get the same results. I say usually because I did have trouble with one of them once.
