Yeah, 4square is location based, so you really need to use it on a mobile
device with GPS. It tracks where you are, and let's all your friends know
where you are. When you walk into a restaurant or something, you need to
select which place you are actually in, from a short list of
possibilities. If you check in at the same place more than any other
person checks into that same place, you can become the Mayor of that
location.
So far, the most interesting use of this technology is the guys who
started the web site, PleaseRobMe.com. If people enter their home as a
named location in 4square, then it becomes obvious when you are not home,
because you are not at that location.
A lot of guys here at work use it, but I am not really sure why. But that
is because I am an old fuddy duddy.
