Are you sure it isn't saying collapse instead of clap? For if this is the
case and you don't want group by conversation, go to alt + v for view and
enter on the first choice ( current view) and arrow down uncheck the group
by conversations by entering on it.

I don't know what OS you are using but somehow your email notification .wav
sound got changed. You can change this in XP in the control panel under
sounds. Not sure about Windows 7.
