Is that router configured not to broadcast it's SSID? This is the
name that should appear in the Connect to dialog. If it does not, you
will need to enter the SSID manually as well as it's pass phrase. The
other possibility is that the laptop is just too far away to make a
connection. It may be set up in a bad place or around something causing
interference. Try connecting with the laptop close to the router. The
best place to put a router is near the center of the house (or central
to all of the areas you want wireless Internet)and up high.
Microwaves, cordless phones, and neighbor's routers can cause
interference. Try to keep these items away from the router and laptop.
Logging into the router and changing the wireless channel number can
make a vig difference. I think the channels go from 1 to 11. Changing
my router to channel 11 made a big improvement so that I no longer get
drop outs.

There is just so much stuff in the world that, to me, is devoid of any
real substance, value, and content that I just try to make sure that I
am working on things that matter.

Hi everyone,
I have asked this question before, but I have some additional evidence and a
question.
In three cases I was able to connect to a connection and have my laptop set
up to automatically reconnect to this network when I was in range again. On
other cases, this has not worked.
Examples
After successfully connecting to a network, I went to manage wireless
networks link and found the network here. I went to properties and found the
checkbox checked which would always allow me to automatically reconnect.
On two different occasions, I have successfully connected to a network, but,
when I went to the manage wireless networks, i did not find the current
network, and could not set up this automatic feature.
One of these was the Laquinta Inn and the other was our auto dealership
network.
Are there certain networks that do not allow you to use this automatic
feature, or is there something I need to change.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Russ
