[JAWS-Users] changing file associations in windows 7

when I go to the change association dialog in Windows 7, Jaws 
absolutely will not read the fifteen choices in the associations 
menu.  I tried alt-down arrow, tried looking with the JAWS cursor, 
tried all the tricks I knew--first letter navigation, reading with 
insert-up arrow--and couldn't get JAWS to read the list, ergo could 
not make the change.  I was in tandem with another computer, where 
.xls files were associated with Open Office instead of MS 
Office.  short of going into the registry--which JAWS would probably 
read--how do I subdue the beast??
