Yes, I have tried it without luck. The issue is not necessarily of any
clutter but Jaws not recognizing the edit box at all.

I have now downgraded to IE 8 and Google is working as it ought to be. Many
thanks to all who very kindly replied to my query.

One list member has suggested upgrading to Jaws 12 in order to fix the
problem with IE 9. If this is the case, I must share my disappointment in
Freedom Scientific for sinking so low by not fixing such a basic issue for
Jaws 11 users. I have remained a faithful Jaws customer ever since I first
used Jaws 4 in 2003 and would of course be upgrading to the latest Jaws
version when we upgrade to Windows 7 in the new year but... This one is
truly below the belt.

Very best Regards

Have you tried using

http://www.google.com/m

this is the mobile page and much less cluttered. i switched to this after we
lost the googlelabs accessibility page.

Additionally, doing a

control+insert+home

puts focus on the first edit on a page, in this case the search edit.
