Gerald,

"OpenBook" is most definitely closed.

I couldn't find anything in the Task Manager list box that
remotely sounded like it was associated with "OpenBook," and
I still can't remove the program.

Be sure Open Book is closed before you attempt to remove it.
Also, use the 
Windows Task Manager to terminate any Open Book processes
that may be 
running in the background.
