Problem solved. I was looking at the wrong com port.

display, but JAWS will not accept it no matter what I do or try to do.
in particular, JAWS should ask for the baud-rate etc. after you specify
the serial com port. JAWS isn't asking for that. (this is now with any
JAWS between 8 and 12.) What gives?
