I realize it's not the laptop, however, if there is a laptop that someone is using that does what my friend needs, I simply want the brand and model so he can check it out. He's gone through several laptops now trying to find one that works. I was hoping that someone has one that does this and would be willing to share the brand and model number.

You need a sound card that will let you have the input and output on one output channel. The sound blaster cards did this with the "what you hear" feature.
