there is an application I'm using, I got it for free from somewhere (try
googling it) called USB Safely Remove
it puts an application in the start menu and when you activate it brings up
a list of any USB devices plugged into your machine it also has a set of
menu's, the first is "actions" in which you can disconnect, reconnect, and a
few other options to use and I have never had it fail to properly disconnect
something when I told it to do so!
I use it with jaws with no real problem
the only flaw I have found with it is that it tends to interpret any second
or third drive type device as the same type as the first one I plug in.
I.E. if I plug in a Kingston thumb drive, then a external Hitachi hard drive
it will call both of them Kingston thumb drives, although it will mark the
first as drive f and the second as drive g so you can figure out which is
actually witch
and reverse, if I plug in the Hitachi first both are called Hitachi drive
though with the drive letter differentiation as above noted.

Thank you David. I went in to Windows Explorer and selected the Elements
drive and under application key and found open and properties but no
eject. Will check again. Under Windows Explorer it said Elements closed. I
thought I should leave it closed, is that correct?
