Hi Dan,

If you explained it using the Command Prompt, that might give us less
experienced computer abusers a better understanding of how the computer
works or, show us different ways of doing tasks', like converting files,
that we wouldn't have known. Thanks again, take care.
Mike

  Hi Mike,

Actually, this is info that old keyboard jockeys would understand mostly.
I
forget sometimes that younger/newer computer users haven't had to rely on
the keyboard as much as some of us old guys had to years ago.

Let me put some thought into it and see if I can figure a way to do this
  without the command prompt.

  Thanks.

  Hi Dan,

This would help out a lot. but, I don't know / understand the command
prompt
stuff or how to issue a CD command. I guess this is for the more educated
computer user. If this is something that could be explained without
taking
up too much of your time, would you please explain it to myself & the rest
of the list how this would be done? I am sure that a few hundred that are
on this list would find it extremely enlightening & very beneficial!
Thanks
  much, take care.
  Mike

    HI,

I looked this up on the internet and found the following:

If you rename a .eml file to .txt then you can use notepad and the like
to
view the contents. they are only typed as .eml so that windows will use
a
    browser to view their contents.

I tried this and found that it does indeed work. However, doing this
also
includes all the routing and tagging info at the beginning and end of
the
content. If the email was composed in html then you'll have to search
for
the first line beginning with a < symbol to find the beginning of the
  actual
content. I removed the routing and tagging info and renamed it as .html
  and
was able to view the email content in a browser. This enabled me to
also
use header and table and other navigation methods.

If you really want the content in a .txt file you could view it in a
  browser
and copy it from their to a .txt file.

I do not have any saved emails in text format so I do not know what you
  see
after renaming to a .txt file.

To make the renaming easier for large numbers of files you could do the
    following:

    open a command prompt.

issue a cd command to the folder holding the .eml files.

issue a rename *.eml *.txt(or htm).

This will rename all the .eml files in the current folder.

I hope this helps you out.

    Hi All,

First, I'm running XP & Jaws 10 thru 13. I have several thousand .EML
  files
I would like to convert to .TXT or .DOC files. Does anyone know where I
  can
get a converter that is Jaws accessible, that can do this job? All help
will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much, take care.
