this is a setting set either in cmos - not, in general, accessible to
the blind - or, for jaws, determined as a jaws setting. the default
in jaws is to start with the numlock disabled to use it as jaws's
reading keypad.

by default, this may be what keeps switching it, although on an xp
machine it does this initially but not at random if i turn num lock
on, it stays on until i reboot or i turn it off.
that initial setting could be at fault, or if your using a netbook,
there is on some a overriding set of settings built into the f keys
and sometimes other keys on them that could be at fault as well. a
third thing is if your using a multi media keyboard that requires
its own software, that could cause troubles.

nope, I am talking about all times of the day while I am on jaws
I put lock on, and type away and the next time I go to the num pad,
the num lock is off again, and I am always having to turn it on
everytime I want to use it. it does not stay on lock mode
