there are some free converters out there that work well I use one here a few

times a month, the best so far is format factory

select the file, hit the apps key, select format factory, make sure the
items in the dialog are OK, then hit ok.
second step is to go into the file menu and hit/enter on start converting

and the end product winds up where you said to put it in the first window of
FF

I don't really have much to add to this.  I only use itunes for what I 
have to, amazon is cheaper and I'd rather have mp3's that let me do with 
them what I will.  Maybe someone who uses it more can comment.
