They are simply icons, so in short the answer is yes just go ahead and place them on your desktop. That goes for everything else that is up on that page, they are all icons in effect shortcuts to do or take you some place.
That took me quite some time to code that page and so far as I am aware it is being used a lot by many people, I hope even more take the time to browse all the headings on there.
