Thanks, that's a little better than my shortcut to the Sound applet, then
ahving to pick between my headset and sound card, then properties, then
volume tab ;D. . I thought maybe there was a script to set something like
CTRL Shift up and down arrows. I tried to send the volume control to the
desktop as a shortcut  but that's not possible. Thanks.

Type in volume in the search box on the start menu.  Then,  arrow down and
find system volume.  when you here system volume, press enter.  Then you can
use the arrow keys and the page up and down keys to raise ane lower the
volume.
