XP support officially ends April 8, 2014.
Of course, the operating system will still work after that date, but
Microsoft won't release any more patches to plug security holes in the
operating system. And, as it is, there are still holes so you are somewhat
more insecure running XP than you are with a newer OS like Win 7 or 8.
I can't speak for Freedom Scientific, but I'd expect that at some point,
they may stop releasing Jaws versions that support XP since XP will no
longer be supported.
But, its amazing how many businesses still run XP-based systems.

I join SUgar in thanksing all who chimed in on this topic. I'm leaning
toward just getting it over with and going with win 7 and wlm while win 7
is
still available. My hardware came with my xp in 2004 so maybe I'll just
buy
a new setup and continue witih my monitor, keyboard, scanner and printer.
