just to add that if you're on the notification bar, in other words if one of 
the buttons on the notification bar is the focus, then you can also make it 
disappear by pressing esc.

No, but you can click the Close button on the right side of the bar make it 
disappear. The bar will also disappear if you navigate away from the current
