Actually, Wordpad in Windows 7 will open .doc files,
you just have to direct it to, it won't automatically unless you change
your file associations.

Tomorrow's another day, another way!
and if tomorrow never comes, problem solved!

You can't open doc files with WordPad in Windows 7. I installed Jarte,
which is a free word processing program. I discovered that I still had to
download a Microsoft converter program, but after doing that I could open
doc files with Jarte. I did all this a couple of years ago, so don't know
about any changes in the meantime.

Hi John,

Have you tried opening a doc file with Wordpad? I just tried it & it
worked, running XP Pro & J10 thru 14.
Take care.
Mike
