If they are downloaded but not installed. Windows will tell you with
a nag screen letting you know there are updates to install. If you
have hidden any they won't download. Now only the critical updates
will download and some times they will install and reboot system.
That is all done with a timer so if your around you can see what is
going on. Now none critical updates will be left alone and you will
have to check them to install them.

I do have the particular updates hidden but, what I'm curious about is the
way my download settings were set it sounds like the updates were downloaded
& I hid them after the fact. So, if they were in fact downloaded but, not
installed, & are on my computer, how I can remove/ delete them so they are
not taking up harddrive space. Thank you very much for your input & advice.

If you didn't check them to be installed, they weren't. The best way to stop
these from that list to appear is to go to Microsoft download page and
search for the downloads. Click the right mouse button and choose hide so
they won't show up again. Later you can show them on the same site by
choosing show hidden update if you change your mind.
