Technically, NLS isn't using anything proprietary. They are using a
standard encryption scheme along with the DAISY standard. The encryption
key is the piece that they obviously try so hard to protect. That is one
reason why they have wanted to keep it to hardware based options. It is a
lot harder to grab the master key off of a system like a Stream, where you
have to hack your way into the firmware, verses off of your
run-of-the-mill computer.
I am glad to see that they are finally going to allow it on IOS devices.
Now I will finally be able to read NLS books on-the-go.
