Every single one has successfully copied to my external hard drives and
worked when I needed it including all Office CDs and all Windows
installation CDs including Win8. ...Now that I think of it, there was one
disk that failed, and that was the DVD Player something or other
installation disk included with my Windows XP machine, but I think it failed
because it was a Dell proprietary disk and not a disk I Purchased from the
company. Oddly enough, the actual Dell Windows XP Home disk copied just fine
and I used it a few times. The key is to make sure you don't lose your
registration strings. I use KeePass to insure this doesn't happen, and
KeePass has never, never let me down. Whenever I need to use the Windows
installation disk backup, I copy the Windows OS files to a thumb drive and
install in this way. The added benefit is that CDs copy files at 2x speed
whereas a thumb drive can copy files anywhere from 10mb per second to 80 mb
per second depending on the USB interface. In other words, the faster the
thumb drive, the faster the installation of Windows. I've installed Win8 in
as little as 6 minutes on a solid state drive.

Copying important installation disks is a great idea and the copy and paste
method is simple. Do the copied install disks always work in your
experience?

Wow! that's extreme. Give the installation of a second screenreader a shot.

By the way, I always "always" make a copy of important installation CDs. I
copy the files to an external hard drive by simply highlighting the disk in
"Computer" then pressing Control+C to copy then pasting in my Software
folder. I also take an ISO of the original installation CD. Since I began
doing this, I've never "lost" an installation disk. this is also faster than

putting a Braille label on the CD box.

John,
Thanks but I have been having this problem for at least 2 or 3 months now.
I cannot tie it to any particular system change or event. I know it was
happening before I installed Jaws 15 beta. FS has suggested I try removing
Outlook 2007, including the registry entries and then reinstall it and see
if that helps. Unfortunately I have misplaced my MS office 2007 disk. FS
also suggested reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling everything.
What's that old saying "the cure is worse than the disease"?

Greg,
This sounds very similar to a problem I was having on a XP system. I don't
remember specifically what the culprit was, but I believe that it was
another program--possibly the software for my Samsung printer/scanner/fax.
Every couple of minutes, it was doing something which caused Jaws to mess
up.

So, if this is a new behavior, try to determine what has changed on your
system just prior to the problem appearing. It may be something as innocent
as updated drivers, an application software update or even a Windows patch
Tuesday. Was it happening prior to the install of the Jaws 15 beta? Which
leads me to a real pet peeve of mine--folks testing out software, especially

beta software, on the machine which they rely on daily.

I'm sure that others on the list will chime in with other possible
solutions.
