Actually, I realize it takes time to learn a new screenreader, but my
suggestion was simply to install the different screenreader as a backup when
Jaws crashes, as well as a second opinion ?when something like this happens.
I've had a version of Window Eyes on my computers for a number of years, and
I still would not call myself a proficient user since I only use it when
Jaws acts up. For example, if the characters on the screen within the
Outlook message are all normal, but jaws is reading them funky, if you
unload jaws and load WinEyes, you might discover that WinEyes is reading the
screen properly, which means all on the screen is just fine, its just that
Jaws is having a problem reading the screen. This makes for a powerful
argument when it comes to talking to tech support and they want to blame
your computer is at fault. The only commands you need to learn are your
hotkey, down arrow (to read through message), and Alt F4 to close Outlook.
These are not screenreader commands so you shouldn't have any problems with
these basic Windows commands.

Joseph,
Trying another screen reader is a good suggestion if I decide to take on the
challenge of learning another screen reader. And actually Bryan Carver the
head of FS support has taken on this issue and has sought help from his
staff in solving it but no luck. FS is sure it's a windows or another issue
with my computer and not a Jaws issue unless other Jaws users can contact Fs
who are having the same problem to give Fs more info to go on. And I will
see how reading all emails in plain text works.

Hi Greg,

This definitely sounds like a Jaws14 problem. You should have asked the FS
technician if he could escalate the problem. this would result in a second
tier software tech giving you a phone call and taking a look for himself.

I don't know if this is allowed here or not, but I suggest trying another
screenreader which supports Outlook. I have both Jaws and WinEyes installed,

and like I stated yesterday, when Jaws crashes, I have a backup to help me
try to figure out why jaws failed. At the very least you can do what I do
and show the FS techs that Window eyes can read the screen just fine, which
supports the belief that it is most likely Jaws struggling to read the page.

For now, try setting Outlook 2007 to read pages as plain text with links
rather than HTML. This is actually a little safer also as HTML code within
an email message can be designed to be loaded with a virus.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Ongoing problem with Outlook 2007 using Jaws 14 or
15beta

I am trying to identify why Outlook 2007 on my Windows 7 64 bit Toshiba
notebook computer does not work properly with either Jaws 14 or Jaws 15
beta. I have spoken to both Fs tech support and Microsoft accessibility
support without any success. The problem is that when I open Outlook 2007
in Jaws 14 or 15 beta Jaws will read emails properly for a while, 3 to 5
minutes or so. However at some point Jaws stops reading emails that are in
html format. Jaws presents them in a strange format with many garbled text
and the html commands such as t to move to tables and h to move to headings
do not work. Instead the letter t or h will appear in the body of the
email. And the cursor key (+ on the numpad) says pc cursor rather than
virtual pc cursor which it says when Jaws is working properly when reading
open html emails. If I close Outlook and reopen it Jaws will work properly
again for a few minutes and then revert to not displaying html emails
correctly.

Fs tech support has been unable to duplicate this problem on their computers
and have received no reports from other Jaws users with my problem. FS had
me completely uninstall Jaws 14 and do a clean reinstall but that did not
eliminate the problem. they also checked all my Jaws 14 settings and they
seem to be working properly.

Microsoft support says it must be a Fs issue since my Outlook 2007
installation looks fine to them. They checked all my settings for Outlook
2007 and nothing they did eliminated the problem. I also ran the Office
diagnostic from the Outlook 2007 help menu and it found no problems with my
Outlook 2007 program.

So I am wondering what could be happening on my system to cause this to
happen. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg Washington
