Go into the router screen. Look at the first table, click Wireless link.

When that opens, look for the security combo box. It should have security enabled. Then, choose security type, strongly recommend wpa and you can use tkip/aes. Then, there is a radio button where you can use the password that is part of your gateway label, or you can select the custom password and choose one that you would use for your security key.

Then, when you click the Save button, you will need to enter the UVerse Gateway password to save those settings.

The procedure for a regular router is similar, except you generally enter the administrative password before it will let you see those settings, and each router's screen and options will vary slightly.

UVerse standard is 192.168.1.254

You will need to know your modem password to save any changes you make in the configuration.

Yes, if you have wifi it is better than good to encrypt it. You don't want a neighbor getting on your network and downloading porn. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rich" <[email protected]>

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Router IP address?

Hi all,
How does one find the IP address of a router?
This was issued by AT&T Uverse.
I am wondering if it is good to encrypt the router for safety.

Thanks.

Rich
