Sorry if this has been covered already, but it *is* very much possible to run the battery down after one year, especially if you've been using your laptop with the battery left on and the AC plug constantly plugged into the electricity and the laptop, in other words, in a perpetual state of re-charging.

While laptop manufacturers claim this isn't supposed to shorten the life of the laptop's battery, it does.

If you feel your laptop is going to be plugged in for a while, take out the battery and just run it off of the AC adapter. The only issue you should have with this is that should you lose power in the house, your battery won't have your back, but then you should be saving your work in any case every so often.

Having said that, one of the first steps in getting a new laptop is to power it up and cycle it completely down, that is, run it off the battery until you get the Windows message that only 2% of battery is remaining on the charge, then charge it back up, then cycle it down again. Do this for the first five or ten charges, and this will, in brief, teach the battery how to charge, for lack of a better term. Just like a guidedog, laptop batteries have their own training, and it must be adhered to, lest your battery go to the battery heaven in the sky. Smiles.

Again, I apologize if this has been covered. My computer was down with hard drive problems, and I've just recently gotten my computer back up and running.

Depending on the usage, but in my opinion for what it's worth I don't
believe so.
