Absolutely not true. Just click on the maps option on the Google home page and then click on the Get Directions link. Enter your starting and ending addresses, and Google will give you driving directions between those two points as well as directions by public transportation and by walking. I use this feature all the time to get directions by public transportation and walking here in New York City. I just tried it myself using IE 8 with JAWS 9 and XP, and it still works as it always has. If Google had decided to discontinue this feature, there would have been a lot of publicity, just as there was when Google discontinued Google Reader.
