Honestly the first time and this is going back quite a while that I looked at Winamp the interface completely baffled me. No menu bar and nothing to point me in the right direction. It was a mystery, fortunately you have the benefit of my traumatic experience to draw from. Control + P opens up preferences. The letters X, C, and V are play pause and stop respectively.
Alt + F opens up another menu but there is nothing to tell you that other than my word for it. Also just hitting the alt key by itself opens up a useful menu. You should be on your way for now. There are other key commands but you need to get comfortable with what I have just given you first. Don't worry there aren't many others.
