Hello Leonard,

First of all, I am using Word 2013 but I think the steps are pretty much the
same in Word 2010.

One thing you might consider is using a symbol field. It would be a little
awkward so you might want to make a macro to do the steps. You can use this
approach if you know the number representing the symbol.

1. In Word 2010 use Alt followed by N followed by Q followed by F.
You will be in a list of field names.

2. Press S followed by Y quickly to move to the symbol field name in
the list. Otherwise, just keep pressing S until you hear the symbol choice
announced.

3. Tab to the character number and type in 42.

4. Press enter key to insert the symbol. Pressing the enter key
enters the symbol without any changes from the default such as font type,
size and whether or not it affects line spacing. In Word 2013 it uses the
default Calibri 11 point. The inserted symbol using the number 42 is pretty
much identical to the appearance of the asterisk.

You would have to do the above steps four times to get the four characters
so the macro might be a good idea. You could also use the redo function
three times.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] MS word 2010auto correction for ****
I want to be able to use **** as my separator between news articles I pasted
in a ms word 2010 document. However, when I type **** and hit return ****
gets erased. The only work around which I don't like is to type ** ** so
that the * symbols don't get erased when I hit return.
