Because quarantining makes the file inaccessible, but it can be restored if it is necessary. Better to do that than delete a file and find out later it was a false positive.

concerning some anti-virus programs, why would anyone want to
quarantine an infected file instead of just removing it from the computer? I would not think you would want to save something that can harm your computer.
