Lenny,
Any HD or thumb drive that was formatted by a Apple Pc, it will not work in a
Windows computer.
I believe you are going to have to reformat the device to operate on a Windows
, maybe through utilities.
If, anybody else wants to add info on how to fix...

I was given an external hd to try and reformat for a windows machine. It was
previously used on a macbook computer. When I powered it up my computer
installed the drivers and I was informed that it is ready to use. It does not
show up in my computer so that I can reformat it. Any ideas on how I can format
the drive?
