George, I just updated from Office 2007 to Office 2010. The install program gave me an option to upgrade. I chose that option and Office 2010 installed and retained all the settings I had for Office 2007 especially in my Outlook 2007 program. It retained all my contacts and email folders. I don't think you can roll back to a prior version of Office once a new one is installed but I may be wrong.
