hope you have your anti virus running at startup
the older the machine, I think slows it down over time.
Adobe can do it or so it seems to me.

depends on your OS, I use windows 7 and find it by going  to the run command 
and arrow down one time to, msconfig and enter

then I control-tab to the start-up page which is a list view of items 
checked to start up and items unchecked

I totally agree with the person who recommendeddisabling items at startup.
On my laptop and desktop both running windows 7, only things at startup are,
Jaws, MSE, and drop box*drop box is my choice here*
systems boot up quickly
