I think there are no possibilities to use wildcards in another way.
JAWS is the simplest screen reader speaking about dictionary.
Even Talks is better, at least we can replace a letter with another one, this being a very good option for those who use diacritics unspeakable by a specific voice. We wrote many messages to Freedom asking to improve the dictionary, we don't need it so advanced like that found in NVDA, but at least to replace a string with another one.

Let's wait for version 16...

Do you know if there are any more uses for wildcards in the dictionary
manager than using the asterisk * character at the end of an expression to
indicate that a word has different endings?
