Hello Ed,

You can set titles for columns, rows or both And have JAWS read them. If
you only want column titles read as you use left and right arrow keys across
a row do the following:

1. Find out what row number and column letter (cell address) will be
used for the first column title.

2. Use the keystroke of CTRL key with function key 3. (Hold CTRL key
down, press F3 and release the keys)

3. Tab to the New button and press spacebar.

4. Do not leave any spacing when typing in the name box. The words
and cell designations are to be typed in as one string of text without any
spaces.

5. Type the words Column Title but don't leave any space between those
words and capitalize each of them.

6. Immediately after the word Title and without spacing type a period
followed by the starting cell address. For example if columns are on row 4
and the first column is A then after typing the period you type A4.

7. Again without spacing type in two periods.

8. Again without spacing type in the ending cell designation. For
example G4 if the last column is G.

9. Using the above example if your columns are on row 4 and go from
column A to column G you would type ColumnTitle.A4..G4

10. Tab to the OK button and use spacebar and if necessary to the close
button and use spacebar.

You should then hear JAWS announce column titles as you arrow from left to
right across rows in the spreadsheet.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] How to get Jaws to announce the name of the column I
am in.

Hi Jaws listers,

I have Win 7 using Office 2010. When I am using Excel and I am down the
column how can I get Jaws to announce the name of the column I am in. for
example say I have the name of the column called Date and I am down the
column how do I get Jaws to announce that I am in the Date column.

Otherwise I have to arrow all the way to the top of the page to find out
what the name of the column is then arrow back down to the row I won't to
enter the date.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Ed
